For my birthday, June 8, I ask you to read this blog and pass it on. Consider it my present to you, your loved ones, your friends, and anyone who may benefit from it.
Today I’m going to use what may one day become an antiquated form of communication: words. I believe that someday humans will communicate telepathically, sharing thoughts, feelings, and ideas instantly. But for now, we have words. And words matter.
Words affect water, and we are mostly water. Words can hurt, and words can heal. Words can divide, and words can unite. Kind words are among the most powerful gifts we can give each other.
Love.
Peace.
Harmony.
Kindness.
Trust.
Respect.
Those are some of my favorite words. Throughout my life, I’ve used words to share ideas and inspire others. I’ve written blogs, hosted television shows, radio programs, podcasts, and recorded thousands of videos using words. I don’t think I invented any new words. You’ve heard them all before.
What I believe I’ve done is put them into a simpler order. I call them the Three Commitments to Kindness.
First, be kind to yourself.
This is often the hardest commitment and the most important one. How can we truly love others if we don’t love ourselves? How can we care for the world if we don’t care for our own mind, body, and spirit? Be patient with yourself. Forgive yourself. Encourage yourself. Speak kind words to yourself.
Second, be kind to others.
For many people, this comes easier. Yet imagine what would happen if everyone simply treated others the way they wished to be treated.
Wars would end.
Violence would diminish.
Greed would lose its grip.
Lying, stealing, cheating, bigotry, prejudice, hatred, and countless other problems would begin to disappear.
Kindness is not weakness. Kindness is strength. It takes courage to choose kindness when anger is easier.
Third, be kind to Mother Earth.
This beautiful planet is our home. It provides everything we need to survive and thrive.
We need to consume less.
Waste less.
Buy less.
Reuse more.
Recycle more.
Repurpose more.
Respect the air we breathe, the water we drink, the soil that feeds us, and the countless creatures that share this planet with us. The Earth has been kind to us. It’s time we return the favor. I believe humanity needs a new consciousness. That is why I created the Kindness Revolution. When I look around the world today, I often describe our situation as the “Insanity of Humanity.” Even Albert Einstein seemed to recognize this when he said: “There are two things that are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about the universe.” The good news is that we have a choice.
Every day.
Every moment.
Every conversation.
Every word.
We can choose kindness.
We can choose respect.
We can choose understanding.
We can choose trust.
In fact, trust may be one of the most important words of all.
Without trust, relationships fail.
Businesses fail.
Governments fail.
Communities fail.
Trust is the glue that holds society together. That is why September 21st is World Trust Day, a day to remind ourselves that trust is earned through honesty, integrity, keeping our promises, and treating others fairly. If we want a better world, we must rebuild trust—one person, one relationship, and one act of kindness at a time.
So for my birthday, I have only one wish. Please join the Kindness Revolution. Commit to being kind to yourself. Commit to being kind to others. Commit to being kind to Mother Earth. And share this message with someone you care about. The world doesn’t need more division. The world doesn’t need more anger. The world needs more kindness.
And that begins with you.
Be Fantastic.
